Alabama fan’s incredible national championship ring hat cost $300
And he hopes Nick Saban will sign it

HOOVER, Ala. — Shannon Villa took a day off from work to be in the Wynfrey Hotel lobby hours before Alabama arrived at SEC Media Days in hopes of getting pictures and autographs from Nick Saban and a few players.
Villa, who is from Birmingham and works at a Walmart Neighborhood Market, would have used a vacation day, but said he’s saving that for Sept. 14 — when Alabama plays Texas A&M in College Station.
Villa, 23, wore an Alabama jersey, a Crimson Tide necklace, a “BEAT LSU” button that he hopes Les Miles will sign, and an over-sized national championship ring hat that cost him $300.
“It’s definitely an attention getter,” Villa told For The Win.
His goal is to get Saban to sign it. And he was successful in that endeavor. Kind of.
Around 3 p.m. when Saban was finishing up his media day obligations, he passed through the lobby to greet fans. Villa said he asked Saban to sign his hat, but the coach must not have heard him correctly because he signed the fan’s football instead.
“I’m happy about that,” Villa said via text message. “I tried (to get him to sign the hat), but I’m sure it was hard for him to hear.”
Indeed, as around 100 fans were in the hotel lobby at any given point throughout the day.
Villa did not get Miles to sign his button, but the most important thing was getting Saban’s signature.
Villa said he and his fiancée arrived at the hotel at 7:40 a.m. and didn’t leave until about 3 p.m.
“Now I can make it up to my fiancée by shopping,” Villa said.
