TUSCALOOSA, Ala. — Who says dueling quarterbacks can’t be friends?
AJ McCarron and Johnny Manziel, two hot names in the Heisman Trophy hunt, have started an unlikely friendship despite the brewing rivalry between Alabama and Texas A&M.
Last November, the SEC newbie Aggies upset the No. 1 Crimson Tide in Tuscaloosa, and the hype for this season’s matchup in College Station on Sept. 14 has already begun.
But McCarron and Manziel, who met at the Super Bowl in New Orleans, don’t let football get in the way of a budding friendship. In fact, they’re planning a little beach vacation together for the end of May.
“We’re either going to Key West or Cancun and will hang out with our other friends,” McCarron told USA TODAY Sports. “Me and him, we don’t ever let that (football talk) bother us. He’s a good friend of mine, and he’s a funny dude.”
And in case you were wondering, McCarron said when he and Manziel are together, they don’t trash talk.
“Nah, we don’t,” he said. “Football is our life, so when we get away, we try to get away and not really bring that in. He’s got all the trash talk on me because he won, so there ain’t much I can talk about.”
Yeah, except for the whole being the starting quarterback for the last two national championship teams and all.
